As we've recently stated, the Athens Area Homeless Shelter has teamed up with a UGA SPCM 3600 class of 24 students in order to promote the shelter's purpose and raise awareness for the idea of homelessness in Athens. After approximately TWO weeks of promoting through social media outlets, reaching out to corporate and local businesses for donations, and collaborating several fundraising events--a percentage night at Menchie's and a car wash--this class surpassed their initial goal, and raised at total of $930.00.
In addition to raising an incredible amount of money in such a short period of time, they also received a few items that the we posted on our wish list, which is a HUGE help to the women and children in our shelter.
